What about Revelation 3?

In the third chapter of Revelation, Jesus speaks to three churches. Two of the churches were terribly lukewarm, and one was on fire for the Lord. The churches in Sardis and Laodicea were failing terribly - to the point that Jesus warns;

"I know your deeds that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth."

Pretty strong words, right? He was warning His people because He loved them and wanted them to repent and get things right. To the Church in Philadelphia, He said,

"I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name."

We want to be like the Church at Philadelphia, focused on God and His purposes, instead of our own. I encourage you to read that chapter and examine your heart to see which church you are most like. I did that, and it caused me to repent before the Lord. He loves us and speaks the truth to us, because He wants us to know Him in an intimate way, and sin blocks that communion.
