What About Good Works!

Followers of Jesus Christ, this verse emphasizes the importance of good works in our lives. Every true believer knows we are not saved by good works; we are saved by God's grace found only in and through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our good works are simply an extension and reflection of our relationship with Jesus Christ. But when we fail at being actively involved in preaching the gospel, caring for the poor, the widows, and orphans, we neglect the good works God has called us to do.

We live in a "Christian" age where many believers seem to embrace the "free" gift of salvation while neglecting the call of God to take up our cross, deny ourselves and follow Him. Also, ignoring God's call to serve and freely give to needs associated with winning the lost to Jesus Christ. This includes supporting mission outreaches to the poorest places on the planet.

  • Are we living selfless or selfish lives?
  • Are we living God-centered or me-centered lives?
  • Are we quickly offended when others forget to serve us?
  • Or are we consistently and humbly looking for opportunities to serve God and others for the glory of God?

Jesus said, "The greatest among you shall be your servant." Matthew 23:11.

For this to be real in our lives:

  • We must learn to humble ourselves to serve God and others.
  • We must prioritize the needs of others more than our own.
  • We must seek first God's kingdom and let our personal "kingdoms" be consumed into His.
  • In doing this, we will find our place in the Kingdom of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Start today with the opportunities at hand, you most probably know what they are. God bless you as you seek first His Kingdom and righteousness.
