He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches." Revelation 2:7

As we continue to read through the book of Revelation, we must take note of this admonition from the Lord Jesus Christ about hearing. For a good reason, Jesus ends each letter to the seven churches with this call to hear. Why? Because He genuinely wants us to listen and to respond reverently!

Sometimes we read God's Word but fail to listen with our spiritual ears. We take it in line after line but fail to digest its depth and meaning. Unfortunately, some Christians don't even make time to read it! That's a giant mistake that brings about catastrophic spiritual consequences in their lives.

Other Christians read God's Word but treat it as words of some unimportant novel. They miss the dynamic depth and tremendous truth of what is written in this heavenly gift, the Bible.

Still, others take things that are clearly stated as God-given directives and commands and relegate them to the level of mere suggestion. That's a big mistake, which also brings about revival-less results!

Each letter to the seven churches in Revelation ends with a clarion call to hear. What are we to hear? We are to hear, to listen closely to the instructions He gave in the previous lines. I encourage you to go back and read the exhortation and encouragement Jesus gave to the church at Ephesus in Revelation 2:1-6. Let's meditate on those words and see how they apply to our lives now. Then reread Revelation 2:7 and take it to heart.

"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God." Revelation 2:7

In heaven, I want to be listed with those who overcame, not with those who were overcome. How about you?

God's kingdom is eternal, so let's live for that King and that Kingdom, not this present earthly kingdom which will pass away one day in the fiery judgment of God! Jesus Christ is Lord! Amen!
