  1. Fan the Fire

From the recording Straight From the Heart

I wrote and recorded the song "Fan the Fire" in the late 1980s while thinking and praying about the need for revival. I had come to Jesus in 1975 during the Jesus movement, a true heaven-sent revival. Many in my generation were swept into God's Kingdom and embraced Jesus Christ wholeheartedly during that time.

We were about worship, reading and learning the Bible, witnessing to others, and doing what we thought Jesus would do if He were here. We certainly had our failings, and at times our zeal caused us to misrepresent the Lord, but our hearts were in the right place. Our goal was to "seek first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness." (Matthew 6:33).

Jesus Christ came into our lives and changed everything through the power Holy Spirit! He freed us from drugs, alcohol, and occultic things and practices and changed our way of thinking. Our lives went from dark to light and our newfound friend, Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ, was the one we wanted to please and live for wholeheartedly.

When I wrote Fan the Fire," it seemed some Jesus people's hearts were growing cold and were passing that on to the next generation. We needed God to move powerfully again, and having lived through the Jesus Movement, I knew what revival looked like and hoped to help spur it on again with this song. I sang "Fan the Fire" hundreds of times in hundreds of locations. Even now, 36 years later, the prayerful words of this song are still the prayer of my heart.

Lyrics

FAN THE FIRE by Brian Mark Weller
Verse 1
Fan the fire of revival by the word of God and prayer.
It’s a matter of survival, to the Kingdom of God and its heirs.

Chorus
We’ve got to jump down on our knees and pray.
Say, “Lord God here I am have your way.”
Jump down on our knees and pray. Say "Lord God here I am."

Verse 2
I see a fiery trial and how I feel its heat.
It will brand self-denial, on the soles of my feet.

Chorus 2
And I will jump down on my knees and pray.
Say “Lord God here I am have your way.”
Jump down on my knees and pray, say "Lord God, here I am."

Bridge
You are the potter. I am the clay.
I’m in your hands, Oh Father.
Mold me, even as I pray.

Verse 3
The blanket of delusion, has spread across the land.
It’s Satan’s grand illusion, to veil the masters plan.

Chorus
We’ve got to jump down on our knees and pray.
Say, “Lord God here I am have your way.”
Jump down on our knees and pray. Say "Lord God hear I am."

Ending:
We’ve got to jump down!
We’ve got to jump down!
We’ve got to jump down on our knees and pray!
