From the recording Time to Tell

I wrote the following message and the song "God Bless the USA" immediately after the events of 911:

On Sept. 11, 2001, two planes crashed into the World Trade Center and one airplane into the Pentagon. What a terrible tragedy, and what a horrific day it was!

I remember the overwhelming feelings that came over me that day. I wrote this song as I contemplated what happened and it's effect on so many people, especially those who lost their lives and the families who lost family members. I marveled at the bravery of the first responders as I read and watched their stories.

Then my sadness was overtaken by spiritual soberness that filled my heart and caused me to look to God's Word for answers. The words of 2 Chronicles 7:14 came to my heart that day. I felt as if the Lord was saying the message in this verse needs to be the clarion call to Christians in the USA.

2 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

Even as the prophet Daniel interceded for his country, now is the time for us to intercede for our nation and confess our nations' sins and our personal sins.

It was a day I’ll never forget,
sadness struck a chord in me
Images flash on my TV screen,
what I see makes me want to sing

God bless this land! (we come to you today)
God bless this land! (help us Lord we pray)
God bless this land! God bless the USA!

You said, If your people who are called by your name.
Would humble ourselves and pray, and seek your face.
Turn from our ways, then you would hear from heaven, and heal our land

When the times get tough, the tough get on their knees
Cause we look to a God who is strong and true who knows
Just what we’re going through, so we pray…
