Why Are You So Fearful?

"But He said to them, "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?" (Mark 4:40)

Jesus made that statement to His disciples amid an extremely stormy sea. They were frantic and afraid, and Jesus was totally at peace sleeping in the stern of the boat on a pillow! That's my God, never distraught and always at peace.

The disciples seemed very annoyed with Jesus for not joining in on their fearful rant and said the following to Jesus.

"And they awoke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?" (Mark 4:38)

Jesus walked by faith and expected His disciples to display at least some measure of faith in Him. They didn't!

Most of us have had our "raging sea" life experiences and probably acted similarly as the disciples did in this story. I'm sure we learned from those experiences that God is always in control and have decided to choose faith over fear. We learned our God could calm us amid any sea of trouble and even calm the sea.

So the next time we face overwhelming feelings of fear and desperation, let's remember, God expects us to have faith and trust in Him. He will be with us and see us through to the other side, no matter how bad things seem to be! Amen!
