They Turn Their Ears Away From The Truth!

2 Timothy 4:3-4

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables."

Followers of Jesus Christ, we are living in the time described in this verse. The Apostle Paul saw it coming way back then when it first began to happen.

There have always been false teachers and those who teach God's word incorrectly. But it seems we live in a time where we see that on a massive scale, and it looks even more heretical than in times past.

Why is it happening more and more now? One reason is more Christians are willing to listen to these false teachers and even embrace what they say, even when it's clear to anyone with even a simple grasp on the Bible that it goes against the teachings of Jesus Christ and his apostles.

Another reason is that the followers of Jesus Christ spend less time in God's word, prayer, and fellowship with other believers. Or their connection with other believers is mainly on a social level, discussing natural things, not on a spiritual level discussing spiritual things like it was in the early church. "They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." (Acts 2:42)

It happens more because a more significant percentage of Christians are led by feelings and emotions, instead of walking by faith, in communion with God and the teachings of His Word. They cave in to the godless social norms of the day to be accepted by the world and make people feel accepted by God, even while they reject God and His commands. This grave mistake will cause many unbelievers to go to their graves without any hope of eternity with Jesus Christ. They must be warned, not comforted! If they reject the warning, so be it. But at least they will have been given an opportunity as we had to repent of sin and receive the promise of God's eternal hope, found only in Jesus Christ!

So, I'll repeat it today as I do almost every day. Let's take God's word in our hands and read it, meditate upon it, and let it be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. If not, there's a greater chance of slipping to the dark side as backsliders. Because the less of God's light we have in our lives, the more the darkness descends in. Believe me when I say that it is not the way we want to go!

In ending, let me say following Jesus Christ faithfully and fearlessly takes discipline and a heart fully dedicated to him. We have all failed at that at times, but now is the time to make things right with God, and it will be more than worth it in the end! God bless you as you follow Him!
