Desire the Pure Milk of God's Word

1 Peter 2:1-3

“Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.”

Followers of Jesus Christ, in this verse, the Apostle Peter urges us to lay aside the things that harm us and others. He includes things like malice, deceit, hypocrisy, and evil speaking. These things have possibly taken up residence in our hearts and are presently flowing out of our hearts as evil speaking and resentful and wrong attitudes.

Then Peter instructs us to have the kind of desire and passion for God's Word that a tiny newborn baby has for milk. If you've spent any time around a newborn baby lately, this illustration really hits home. Any newborn baby craves milk so much that they will not stop crying until they get it. Right?

In this letter, Peter tells us we need to have that same type of desire and craving for the milk of God's Word. We should have a passion for God's Word that is so strong that we have to have it before starting our day. Then throughout the day, we meditate on God's Word, including what we read earlier.

Without a doubt, one of the best ways to grow in spiritual strength and vigor is to "eat" the real breakfast of champions, which is God's Word. If we miss that spiritual breakfast, we start our day on the wrong foot, instead of being in step with our Lord Jesus Christ and being led by the Holy Spirit.

So in ending this short devotional, let me share a couple more key essential things. If you're struggling in your walk with the Lord Jesus Christ and any sin issues, it quite often traces back to a lack of time spent in God's Word and in prayer. God loves you and wants you to taste that He is good, gracious, kind, loving, and merciful.

So be sure to take the time to lay aside the things that injure others and ourselves and damage our relationship with God, our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit will lead us in this! So go now, pick up God's Word and have a spiritual feast that satisfies your soul with the good things God wants to fill our hearts with!

God bless you as you follow Him!
