Released 2018
Lyrically, "Back to the Cross" is about getting right with God. It's about putting God first in our lives. Musically, it's folk rock, with some fine acoustic instruments, some great electrics and lots of harmonica!
  • 03:28 Story Lyrics Back to the Cross

    VERSE 1

I lost my way, more than a time or two.

I had to find my way back to the cross.

I chose my own path more than a time or two.

I count those times as a lost.

I count those times as a loss.

I’m coming back to the cross Lord.

I’m coming back to the cross.

I want to count my life as loss Lord.

That’s why I’m back at the cross.

    VERSE 2

    Darkness was my guide Lord

as I drifted side to side.

I had so much pride Lord – to push you aside

and try to be my own guide.

I’m coming back to the cross Lord.

I’m coming back to the cross.

I want to count my life as loss Lord.

That’s why I’m back at the cross.

    VERSE 3

    Jesus be my guide Lord

    won’t you light my way.

Let the darkness stay behind me

    as I walk your way.

I’m taking up my cross Lord

    deny myself , follow you.

I’m taking up my cross Lord

    and daily follow you.

  • 03:10 Story Lyrics Worry

    VERSE 1

What if you don’t see the sign?

    (Oh I missed it again)

What if you don’t make it on time?

What if you’re alarm never rings?

(I know I set it for the right time)

You can’t find a reason to sing!

    What if you never win?

    (I tried so hard)

What if you can’t seem to get in?

    What if your business fails?

    (I  invested everything I had)

    Your ship it never sails!

Worry, Worry, Worry never changes anything!

Worry no more, Worry no more,

instead just give it to the King!

    VERSE 2

What if your car won’t start?

    (It's that battery again)

    Your hopes are blown apart.

Your dreams never do come true.

    (That was a nightmare)

    What will you do? (Worry)

What if your friends let you down?

    A hurricane hits your town!

What if things don't go your way?

You just have a rotten day!  (REPEAT CHORUS)

    VERSE 3

What if you stopped your worry?

What if you dropped your fear?

What if you give it all to God?

The one who holds you near!

What if you said a prayer?

What if you cast your cares?

There’s so much life to live!

There’s so much love to give!

There's no need to throw this day away

    (with) (REPEAT CHORUS)

    Come now to God.

    and cast your burden down.

    Come now to God and

    cast your burden down!

While writing the songs for Back to the Cross, I was looking back at times, I had drifted from my love and commitment to my Lord Jesus Christ. Times I was living in compromise, as a lukewarm believer but pretending to be spiritual. That's what the song "Back to the Cross" is about. It's about remembering what it was like confessing my sin and getting right with God. It's about recalling how much time I wasted on foolish things. It's about being forgiven and making a fresh and loving commitment to Jesus Christ.

The lyrics of "Back to the Cross" led to the next song, "Ready or Not." In this song, I remind myself and listeners that Jesus Christ is coming back. He is returning whether we're "Ready or Not." It reminds us that it is our responsibility and our calling to be ready for the return of Jesus. Philippians 2:10-11 says "that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

"My Treasure" is a song about my relationship with the Lord. It is a song of thanks and praise for God's forgiveness and restoration. It is a love song to Jesus, and He is "My Treasure". It is a worship song and one I pray many will sing to the Lord of all, Jesus Christ.

"Worry" the last song on the album is different from the others both musically and lyrically. That's why I put it last. I wanted to leave listeners with the idea that they don't have to worry today or any day. Using some humor and sarcasm, I point out that worry is counterproductive. "Worry" It is a fun song, but one I pray will encourage believers in Jesus to trust God in all things. Jesus told us not to worry because He is in control! He not only promised He would take care of us, but also promised that worry would not change a thing. Worry, fear and anxiety have no power to change things for the good.

Here is what Jesus said about worry in Luke 12:22-26 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. 23For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?"

I pray these songs encourage, comfort and challenge you. I also pray you enjoy listening to the songs, the way I enjoyed writing them and recording them.

It was a blessing having my son JJ Weller play electric guitars and my daughter Megan Sayler sing background vocals on the first three songs of the EP. God bless you as you listen! Brian
